Art | The Difference a Frame Makes

Although most of my business is to capture weddings and special events, I do enjoy taking portraits when I can. One couple arrived at my studio to have some photos taken of their toddler and of all of them as a family. When they were shown the proofs from their portrait session, they were excited and ordered a number of custom finished enlargements.

I really enjoyed the photo session, and was happy with the images that they selected.  Many times, a great photograph is begging for a nice frame to turn itself into a fine art piece for a customers wall. I needed to make a custom built frame to give these images a place to shine in their home. The frame has multiple photo spaces in the matte to allow a collage of images to be displayed.

The end result was two 25″x25″ custom gallery style frames fitted with a custom archival mattes. They look great even without the photos inside them. Once the photos were placed and the backing was installed, they now had a nice piece of art that they can hang on their walls. Along with these two custom frames, there were four standard 16″x20″ gallery frames used to show some smaller images. These will look great placed inside their home, and now they can have some long-term images of their newborn son especially as he grows over the coming years.

If you have some nice images that look great on your computer screen, take some time and get an appropriate frame for it. I’m sure you will be pleased with how great that image now looks hanging on your wall.

Serene & Ben | Their San Francisco Wedding Slideshow

This is the first slideshow that I’ve ever decided to place on my blog. I have to say… I like it! In this short show, I’ve included a number of photos that were not showcased in my previous blog posting. This wedding was pure classic San Francisco with the entire affair held in the downtown area, and all of the right details to make it a truly unique event. Please enjoy this short show celebrating Serene & Ben’s San Francisco wedding. Congratulations again, Serene and Ben!

Old Time San Francisco - A Wedding with Style

This past holiday weekend, two good friends celebrated their wedding day in San Francisco at the Trinity Episcopal Church (with the famous red doors) and the reception at the Merchants Exchange building on California Street. I am amazed at the classic, yet modern style of their day. Serene and Ben put an enormous amount of effort and planning into their wedding celebration and only relied on a few close friends to assist them. It was my pleasure to be their wedding day photographer.

Serene & Ben - Go Bears!

There is something about being a University of California alumni that you just never get rid of, Once a Bear, Always a Bear. Both Serene and Ben are Cal alums, and Serene is now an optometrist and Ben is a high-tech consultant… AND he was a member of the Cal band. The fact that they are alums and plus the fact that he was in the band, well, I guess that’s how we were authorized to get onto Cal’s Memorial Field up near Berkeley’s Strawberry Canyon.

When they decided to have some engagement photos taken, nothing seemed to be better than to use Memorial Field where the Cal Bears hold their home football games, and where Ben performed as a member of the Cal Band. They both loved their time there in college and are avid fans of the Cal football team. Serene, Ben, my wife Annie (who came to assist me), and I are all Cal Alums, even so, it was a bit of a challenge to get into the stadium. Those of us here in the Bay Area all know about the “tree sitters” and there was another protest going on as well. To be honest, we were lucky to get in. When we got there, there was a soccer clinic being held, and the whole field was filled with athletes. Luckily, after shooting a few frames around the stands, the clinic wrapped, and we got access to the field.
